BORP and East Bay Parks Camping Trip – a story in photos and photo captions

On August 17-18, BORP’s Adventures and Outings program in collaboration with East Bay Parks staff had an overnight tent-camping experience at the Gillespie campsite in Tilden Park in Berkeley. For five participants, this was their first experience camping.

Image 2: 3 volunteers help secure the guide ropes for blind campers to be able to find their way to the bathroom at night. The guide ropes went from the tents of each blind camper to the bathroom, with knots to indicate which tent was which so they got back to the right sleeping bag. Participants learned other tips for accessible camping such as how to set up a tent with enough internal space and ways to get the bed high enough off the ground for wheelchair users.
