Our youth wheelchair basketball team, the BORP Bay Cruisers are starting their season with some exciting changes. We’re excited to welcome Head Coach Molly Bloom and Assistant Coach Michelle Jenkins, who bring a fresh perspective, immense wheelchair basketball experience, and a shared commitment to building a strong, supportive, and inclusive environment for our young athletes.
Head Coach Molly Bloom has played wheelchair basketball for nearly 15 years and previously helped found and run a women’s team in Southern California. Reflecting on the team’s growth, Molly shares, “The program seems to grow every week. I’m thrilled to see the excitement and energy that the participants bring to each practice.”
Joining her as Assistant Coach is Michelle Jenkins, a dedicated player and volunteer in adaptive sports programs for over 11 years. “It’s been great to assist in teaching the fundamentals of wheelchair basketball with the BORP youth program,” Michelle says. “They are really smart kids, and they are learning something new about the sport every week.”
This dynamic coaching duo led the team through their first games of the season last weekend, against the Sonoma County Hawks. Although the Bay Cruisers dropped both games, they showed remarkable teamwork, grit, and growth in the two-game series. With many of the athletes playing in their first ever official games, the tournament provided a great learning opportunity and our coaches are eager to work on some fundamentals at practice next week!
