March is always a big month for basketball—and BORP was no exception! We hosted two exciting tournaments this past month packed with skill, hustle, and community spirit.
On March 8–9, two of our newly NWBA-registered teams, the Bay Area Ballerz and the Meteorites, hosted a Division III and Women’s Sanctioned Tournament right here at home. It was an incredible opportunity for our athletes to showcase their talent and progress in front of a home crowd. Both teams finished 1–3 on the weekend, but played their opponents close in every game. Huge thanks to the Memorial Rehab Lady Shars, who traveled all the way from Florida to join us—we were thrilled to have them! We’re already looking ahead to hosting an even bigger, better sanctioned tournament next year.
We closed out the month with our Annual Rec Tournament on March 28–29, a truly special event featuring four BORP-affiliated wheelchair basketball teams. The lineup included:
-
BORP All Stars (Berkeley Rec)
-
San Francisco Rolling Fog (a brand-new team run in partnership with SF Parks & Rec, playing their very first games! )
-
Meteorites (Women’s team)
-
BORP Bay Cruisers (Youth)
All teams showed impressive teamwork, communication, and growth throughout the weekend and the season. A big thanks to our incredible volunteer announcers (Bill, Bill, Scott, Steve, and Will), our army of volunteers who kept our athletes fed and the scoretable running, our incredible coaches (Molly, Michelle, Armando, Jorge) and our event sponsors Ava Community Energy, Fabrique Deli, and Amelie. We are glad the madness is over for now but we already can’t wait until next Basketball season!
