The BORP bus makes outings like Birding in the Redwoods to Boba with friends accessible. he BORP shuttle can transport up to 5 wheelchair riders at a time and is able to bridge the gap between public transport and Bay Area points of interest.
We provided transportation for a recent Access Northern California SCI bird-watching event in Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park, enjoying the symphony of Scrub Jay, Stellar’s Jay, Warbler, Thrush and Wren calling out. A Turkey Vulture and Red Hawk soared up above looking for their next meal.
A different sort of trip brought 5 Oakland youth with visual impairments to an accessible Bowling & Boba activity. These youth look forward to BORP activities which range from Goalball, cycling, rock climbing to movies or pizza. The shuttle bus encourages mobility and independence in our growing youth.
“My Mom doesn’t let me use public transportation alone or with friends. But, she will allow me to go on the BORP bus for activities because it’s safe and the activities are school related in her opinion. This is a chance for me to talk to my friends and hang out.”– BORP Oakland youth, age 15
BORP drivers have decades of experience and can navigate the safest way through any
adventure. We are grateful to be selected for continued funding and support from Alameda Country’s Transportation Commission Measure B project funding.
