Adventures & Outings: Information and Guidelines for Participants

Adventures & Outings is one of BORP’s most popular programs. Year-round activities take place on weekends and occasionally on weekdays. We offer a wide variety of experiences, from visiting local, regional and state parks and trails, to wine and olive oil tasting, sightseeing, museum visits, and attending cultural events. Families and friends are encouraged to participate. Trips generally last between six and eight hours.

Please note that each outing has a fee. Generally, costs range from $10 to $25 per person, but prices can vary depending on the nature and length of the activity. Payment plans are available.

What to Expect

BORP trips are designed for wheelchair-users, people with visual impairments, and people who experience difficulty walking. We make every effort to accommodate all participants’ needs so that everyone who joins us can feel fully included and get the most out of the experience. However, participants have to be prepared to adjust to the pace and the needs of the group as a whole.

Safety is our first priority so we require that everyone who participates on the outing is able to follow the leader’s guidelines and instructions.

In most cases, we provide wheelchair-accessible transportation, but space is limited. When available, we also provide volunteer support, primarily for sighted guiding.

Please note, BORP does not provide attendant care on trips, but we do offer discounted trip fees for caregivers when possible.

How to Join an Outing

Check out our upcoming outings on the BORP Calendar or, if you’ve participated in a previous outing, check the emails we send out regularly to past participants. You can also call BORP’s recorded line at 510-225-7301 to listen to information on upcoming outings.

Once you have identified an activity or outing you would like to participate in, please follow the following steps:

  1. Contact BORP Adventures & Outings coordinator Lori Gray AFTER 10AM at 510-843-4398 or email lori@borp.org. Lori will let you know if space is available and will discuss the trip logistics with you so you can make sure the trip is suitable for you. BORP trips fill quickly, so we urge you to contact Lori early.
  2. Once you’ve discussed the trip with Lori and you both agree it works for you, you can register with her.
  3. Once you’ve registered, you will receive an email from Lori that includes all the trip details.
  4. When you attend the trip, you will be required to make your payment (unless a payment plan has been arranged). We accept cash, checks or money orders.

Cancellations or Refunds

Full refunds are given only if BORP has to cancel an outing. No-shows are still expected to submit full payment. Credit may be possible in some situations.
