Kanani is a passionate advocate with over 10+ years of experience working with nonprofit organizations. He is committed to advancing equity and justice for historically marginalized communities. Kanani is currently an Associate Director at the Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH), a national housing justice organization. In this role he leads CSH’s national justice portfolio. Prior to CSH Kanani worked at the ACLU of Northern California where he focused on major programs, trainings, political campaigns, and organizational support to advance civil rights and civil liberties and the programmatic goals of the ACLU of Northern California.
Kanani holds a master’s in public policy from the University of California, Berkeley. Kanani is an above the knee amputee and in recent years has been sharing his story of triumph over adversity publicly as a means and path to healing and self-liberation, as well as to empower and inspire other people with disabilities. This has led to many great opportunities to share his story broadly, including being on the cover of Yoga Journal (September/ October 2020 issue) – the world’s preeminent yoga magazine. He is the first person with a disability to ever be on the cover.
